Located in the vibrant hub of London’s arty Southbank, the London College of Contemporary Music (LCCM) provides a top-quality education to music students. The first music college to provide a rigorous education across both music performance and production to all students, it has gone from strength to strength in the twenty-two years since its inception.
Through its partnership with one of the top specialist arts universities in the UK, the University for the Creative Arts (UCA), LCCM has recently updated and modernised its entire portfolio of study programmes, ensuring it provides an industry-relevant, state-of-the-art musical education.
Through its compact selection of meticulously crafted awards, including certificates of higher education, bachelor’s degrees and master’s degrees, LCCM has been able to truly perfect its curricula to provide a highly valuable study experience. Courses are led by expert teaching staff with significant industry experience, and a focus is placed on small classes and a bespoke learning experience.
Employability is incorporated into every module of every degree at LCCM, with students able to access careers advice throughout their study programme and beyond. Upon completion of any of these courses, graduates are well-placed to secure advanced work in their chosen field or embark on a music-related PhD.
The MA Creative Entrepreneurship focuses on teaching students how to research, develop and launch a successful business within the creative industries. Modules include market research, business planning, creating successful business pitching strategies, a range of case studies, and the creation of a major project in the final term.
The MMus Music Performance guides students to develop their skills as a musical performer, director, or composer to a top-level professional standard. Students refine their skills, lead ensembles, and create new materials through a combination of group and individual practice. There is also a focus on business strategy and marketing, including completion major body of creative or professional work over the summer.
The MMus Music Production finetunes students’ specialist creative practice. Students develop, finesse and record a body of compositions which are then mixed and mastered. The degree also teaches launch, marketing, and PR strategies. Students are expected to complete a major body of creative of professional work over the summer.
The MSc Entertainment Management & Analytics is designed for students with an interest in entertainment management, and places special emphasis on digital distribution, digital content marketing, and decision-making. Students conduct and test their own research using a range of relevant data sources before creating business plans and pitches. The degree culminates in a major project.
Academic entry requirements

English language entry requirements
All postgraduate degrees at LCCM require students to have an understanding of the English language equivalent to CEFR level C1, with a minimum IELTS score of 7.0 overall, and no lower than 6.5 in any band.

LCCM does not have a traditional student union, but its student committee organizes a schedule of activities and events and acts as a voice for the student body. Representatives are elected to the student committee from all levels of study.

With over half a million students across 40 higher education institutions, London is continually voted the world’s best student city. London has something for everyone: an incredible arts and culture scene, museums for every taste, breathtaking architecture, and an abundance of places to eat and drink, not to mention its world-famous nightlife.
Music students in particular benefit from living and studying in London, with a huge range of live music options to enjoy, from open-mic nights to up-and-coming bands playing in small venues to concerts in vast arenas. In fact, there is so much music to enjoy that it is estimated 1 million people attend live music events across London every week (Mayor of London, 2023).
LCCM does not provide its own accommodation to students. However, there is ample student accommodation suitable for postgraduate students in the nearby area and beyond. Options include private halls of residence and shared student housing.
Students are able to make use of dedicated social media groups to connect with other LCCM students looking for flatmates, and the LCCM student services team are able to advise on accommodation matters.
LCCM boasts a brand new purpose-built campus, the Music Box. This incredible feat of design is ideally situated close to London Waterloo and London Bridge train stations and is just three minutes’ walk from Southwark underground station.

Support is made available to students from the application process, through their degree, and even after they graduate.

The Dr. Mathew Knowles Scholarship is a competitive scholarship scheme organized by LCCM. Accessible to all students over the age of 17 who have been accepted to study on a full-time course at the institution, the winner will receive a bursary to cover the total cost of their overall tuition fees, up to the value of £27,750.
This unique scholarship requires all applicants to showcase their specific talents in a series of auditions and performances. Students must exhibit their skill in music performance, production, or business. Successful candidates compete against each other and are judged by Dr. Mathew Knowles, manager of Destiny’s Child, and esteemed member of teaching staff at LCCM.

At the time of writing, all of the postgraduate courses offered by LCCM are taught courses. Students graduate from these courses well-positioned to enter an advanced research degree.
At present, it is not possible for students to study their courses at LCCM via distance learning. Due to the nature of the subject matter and types of skills learned, it is necessary and beneficial for students to attend class in person.
