Research programmes may start at any time of the year, but typically begin in September. Students are required to centre their academic work around the university and attend meetings with their supervisors as appropriate.
There are also opportunities for visiting research students from overseas.
Distance learning
Different learning options are available to suit a variety of student needs. A growing number of UCL programmes can be taken on a distance learning basis, where some or all of the teaching is delivered online. Students can find details individual programme entries online.
Distance learning students are assigned a personal tutor, who organises regular contact meetings. Supporting materials such as lecture notes, interactive tools and podcasts can be accessed through the university’s virtual learning environment (VLE). Students can enhance their learning online by interacting with study groups and forums in the VLE. Some programmes require occasional visits to campus.
