Entry requirements

Admission requirements vary on a course-by-course basis, and prospective students are encouraged to check the course-specific information on the university website.

Courses are delivered in English, and applicants much demonstrate a minimum level of English language proficiency to be admitted. For postgraduate study, applicants should be able to demonstrate one of the following:

  • GCSE Grade 4 (or C) or above in English Language or English Literature, or an equivalent qualification
  • Grade 6.0 or above, with at least 6.0 in the reading and writing modules, in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) academic test administered by the British Council
  • 88 or above in the Internet option, 230 or above in the computer-based option or 570 or above in the paper-based option, of the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test
  • Grade 4 (or C) or above in English (Language or Literature) at A/S Level
  • A cognate sub-degree (Level 5) qualification taught and assessed in English from the University of Hong Kong or City University of Hong Kong

As UCEM is an online institution, there isn’t a traditional students’ union available. However, its dedicated student representatives provide a connection between UCEM and students, helping to improve the student experience by communicating between university peers.

UCEM graduates can also join the alumni association which has it very own platform, UCEM Global Community. Alumni can connect with each other, set up and attend events, access and offer mentoring support, view the jobs board and share industry news.

UCEM doesn’t run any clubs or societies, as it is a fully online university. However, students are encouraged to join UCEM’s Buddy Scheme. This scheme is a great chance to network with your peers, make social connections and create professional development opportunities. Students can make friends through the buddy scheme by sharing experiences, hobbies, passions with people who are on the same journey.

Students study through UCEM’s highly interactive virtual learning environment (VLE), providing a flexible weekly learning plan and a range of learning resources, including e-books, videos, infographics, and interactive learning modules, all in one place.

Students are given access to the VLE four weeks before they begin their programme, where they can then access the induction module and learn how to use the VLE effectively.

UCEM also has a vast e-library, containing a variety of e-books, journals, articles, and other helpful online resources. As UCEM’s library is completely online, students can access resources at any time of day, any day of the year, in a way that fits best around their study time.

Awarded to a limited number of new students who demonstrate outstanding academic ability and financial need, offering up to 50% discount on their programme fee.

PG MSc Sustainability 50% Scholarship

Awarded to students on the MSc Innovation in Sustainable Built Environments programme to students who have demonstrated outstanding academic ability and financial need. This scholarship is awarded as a 50% discount on the programme fees.

UCEM does not currently offer research degree programmes.

All programmes at UCEM are taught via online learning. This gives students both the accessibility and flexibility to strike a healthy balance between university, work, and personal commitments. Students can work from home, study on the move, or a local cafe, requiring only an internet connection and workspace to achieve an accredited postgraduate degree.
