The University of Southampton designs its degrees with students’ future in mind. The aim of university staff and instructors is to help students gain a more specialist understanding in their subject area.
Many of the courses offered by the university provide students the chance to gain industry experience through undertaking an internship, as well as working on live briefs with real-life businesses.
University of Southampton courses are all underpinned by high quality teaching delivered by expert staff, developed with care over many years. Great care is taken to ensure that all the taught programmes offered are valuable, relevant, and building on the forefront of their respective fields.
Research
The university offers postgraduate research degrees including MPhils and PhDs, as well as specialist courses such as the Doctor of Medicine (DM) and the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA).
Students benefit from working with the university's world-leading academics during their time studying, as well as cutting-edge subject-specific facilities. During their time learning, they will work independently for the majority of their time as they focus on a subject in detail to then go on and write a thesis on their findings. They will be supported throughout by a supervisor with specialist knowledge in their field.
Distance learning
The University of Southampton offers a number of courses which are possible to complete via distance learning. This enables students from anywhere in the world to complete preparatory modules or entire courses from the comfort of their homes. The certifications and qualifications earned via distance learning are equivalent to face-to-face learning and will stand students in equal stead when it comes to having a valued Southampton qualification on their CV.
The university has placed a particular focus on developing a framework for distance learning at a postgraduate level, meaning students at a Master’s or PhD level will particularly be able to benefit from this flexibility.
