The university’s Students’ Union promotes, represents and supports the interests and welfare of all students.
It has over 206 clubs and societies to choose from, all offering students the opportunity to get involved in something they feel passionate about, while meeting new people and making friends which can last a lifetime. Strathclyde Sports Union proudly hosts over 50 sports clubs; outdoor or indoor, competitive or recreational, everyone can take part.
Clubs and societies
The Students’ Union runs a wide range of societies, both course and subject-related as well as interest and hobby-based. They include the Chess Club, Knitters Anonymous, Mature Students Association and Strathclyde Marketing Network.
The university also has a TV station and newspaper run by students, a Comic Writers and Artists Society and Re-Act Theatre Group. A wide range of sports clubs is available, too. Overall, student reviewers praised the attitude and friendliness of society members, as well as the cheap cost of signing up.
City life
Glasgow is Scotland’s biggest and most cosmopolitan city, famed for its cultural institutions, such as the National Theatre of Scotland, Scottish Ballet and Scottish Opera. It also offers a multitude of restaurants, lively bars and cafes, and a thriving music and arts scene.
Shopping centres, department stores, boutiques and markets are scattered around the different areas of the city and in its back streets and hidden lanes. Known as one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Europe, students find there’s plenty to do and see while studying at Strathclyde.
The National Geographic Traveller named Glasgow as one of its 'Best of the World' destinations.
