There are over 150 taught courses on offer to study at masters and diploma level. Each course comprises of a mix of compulsory classes and elective topics for students to choose from, delivered through lectures, seminars and practical work. Site visits and placements are the basis of many of Strathclyde’s courses.
Research projects also form an integral part of the university’s courses. Typically, students will write a dissertation specialising in a particular area of study during the final months of their degree. A personal tutor is allocated to support students through both the taught and research elements of their course.
Research
Research is of central importance in everything that Strathclyde does. It informs the university’s undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and allows them to translate findings into making a positive impact on business, industry and society as a whole.
There are 33 areas of study available for a research degree, either as an MRes, MPhil, PhD or EngD. The Graduate Schools offer a friendly and supportive study environment for research students, and staff and fellow research students are extremely supportive.
Distance learning
Around 30 courses are available to study remotely by web-based learning. Students have access to tutors and support staff throughout their learning, as well as online discussions with fellow students. All the material needed to study is available on the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), which is regularly updated. Each module typically includes two pieces of assessment.
