As a postgraduate research student at Surrey, applicants will be a part of work that is changing lives, with access to modern facilities and the chance to experience leading labs in the UK and overseas. Students will also work alongside scientists from the university and industries around the world. Students will be assigned to a research group, consisting of academics, postdoctoral researchers and guest scientists, enabling students to share knowledge with peers and learn from each other.
The university’s Doctoral College is cultivating a research environment, built around a strong community of researchers, supervisors and staff, spanning all three university faculties.
The Doctoral College provides excellent support and services, functioning as a hub for all the key research groups at the university, delivering skills training and networking events, and boosting employability skills of postgraduate researchers.
Distance learning
A small number of postgraduate courses can be studied through distance learning, using a web-based e-learning platform called SurreyLearn. This platform is a secure online environment which provides quick and easy access to relevant learning materials, programme and module information and activities such as quizzes, tests, and online assignments.
SurreyLearn has made it possible for applicants to complete their studies from anywhere, whilst also providing flexibility in when their course is completed.
Students that opt for the distance learning option will have five years to complete their course, which includes a dissertation and eight taught modules. The university prefers that students take their exams on site at the university, however exceptions can be made depending on circumstance.
