Course Summary

This programme allows you to meet the full registration requirements (GTCS) for teacher registration status required to teach in Scotland at primary, secondary, and further education level. You study a PgCert over 9 months. There are two compulsory courses which start in September. You spend at least 18 weeks in a school to achieve standard for full registration and you graduate with postgraduate certificate in Educational Studies.

  • You learn via blended learning and this qualification allows you to teach in Scotland if you are from outside Scotland in England, Wales, or Northern Ireland. Please ask if you are from outside these areas about whether you can access this course.
  • You learn in an energetic research led environment where teaching and specialist knowledge combine to give you the in-depth knowledge and training you need to be a confident teacher
  • Education is ranked 8th in the UK (CUG 2020)

You learn via blended learning at an induction event with four collaborative workshops and peer to peer support. There are other routes into teaching which include the Distance Learning PGDE, and Educational Studies STQ with Online Access programmes if you require further exams in essential subjects to teach. You are assessed from practice against SFR evidence, formative assessments, and course assessments. The STQ has been designed and developed jointly with the GTS to enable you to gain full GTCS registration at primary and secondary educational levels. You can continue to MEd Flex after successful completion of the STQ courses.

The School of Education offers you a wide range of teacher training programmes which are a mix of either on campus or online learning along with a placement in schools and continued professional development.
