Postgraduate Reviews of Courses at University of Aberdeen

Studying at the University of Aberdeen is a rewarding experience shaped by its historic environment, natural beauty, inclusive culture, and calm lifestyle. The university’s old granite buildings reflect a rich academic heritage that inspires respect for learning, while the surrounding green spaces and coastal scenery create a peaceful atmosphere that supports focus and well-being. The cold and serene lifestyle of Aberdeen encourages discipline, reflection, and a balanced approach to academic life.

A key strength of the University of Aberdeen is its multicultural and respectful community. Students from different races, cultures, and nationalities interact in an environment built on mutual respect and understanding. This diversity broadens perspectives, promotes tolerance, and prepares students for global engagement. The friendliness among students and staff further enhances the sense of belonging, making it easier for international students to adapt and feel comfortable. Academically, the university provides strong support through accessible lecturers and programs that emphasize critical thinking, research, and independence.

Despite these positives, I do not see many sport activities like Tennis, Volley, Badminton and Hockey. Expanding indoor social and recreational spaces could help students stay engaged during long cold seasons.

Overall, the University of Aberdeen stands out as a great place to study due to its history, natural environment, cultural diversity, and supportive academic atmosphere. With targeted improvements, it can further strengthen the student experience and its global appeal. read full review

Personal Reflection on My Experience at the University of Aberdeen (2024–2025)
My time at the University of Aberdeen, in the Artificial Intelligence Department, began with great optimism. I was eager to immerse myself in advanced topics such as machine learning, data science, and intelligent systems, and to learn from experienced lecturers and researchers. The environment initially felt welcoming and intellectually stimulating.
However, my experience changed after a difficult interaction with one of my lecturers, who also served as the course coordinator for Machine Learning. I approached him respectfully to discuss a grading issue I had identified in one of my assessments. After review, he acknowledged the marking mistake. Although I appreciated his honesty in admitting the error, this incident unexpectedly affected the atmosphere around me.
Over time, I began to feel a noticeable shift in how some people treated me. Certain lecturers and fellow students appeared distant, and a few even avoided interacting with me. On several occasions, I was excluded from group projects because some classmates declined to have me join their teams. This created a deep sense of isolation and disappointment, and I often found myself suffering in silence throughout my academic journey.
Despite these challenges, I made a determined effort to remain focused on my studies and uphold my commitment to learning. I continued to engage with coursework, contribute meaningfully wherever possible, and seek knowledge beyond the classroom. Through this experience, I learned to rely on my inner strength, discipline, and integrity.
Looking back, this period taught me profound lessons about resilience, fairness, and self-belief. It showed me that adversity, while painful, can also be transformative. I now carry forward not just the technical skills I gained, but also a deeper sense of empathy and the courage to stand up for what is right, even when it is difficult.

For me studying at the University of Aberdeen is a great experiance as the university campus has ancient as well as advanced and modern architectural designs and has great facilities for students, research and for academic and non-academic support. The student support and advice is really great and helping students to grow and learn better.

In terms of location, the campus is spread in two different locations is great but sometimes a bit challenging for new students. There is lot of opportunities to explore in academic and non-academic which is really great and a single portal where all the information can be found is really helpful. read full review
