The University of Bolton’s MSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering aims to build on your undergraduate degree to equip you for a specialist role in research or product design and development. We offer specific pathways in embedded system design and renewable energy technology. Our expert tutors will support as you learn to critically apply your knowledge of engineering, science and emerging technologies to investigate and solve industrial and research-related problems. We’ll focus on helping you learn to use advanced software tools for modelling, simulation and design. Your studies will also further develop your analytical problem-solving, critical communication, presentation and transferable skills. Modules

This module aims to provide you with an in-depth analysis of the operation and control of Electrical Power Systems, electrical machines specifically concentrating on three phase synchronous and asynchronous machines. In addition, FACTS devices using power electronic converters are covered. Your learning will be supported by hands-on practical laboratory sessions and you will apply analysis and computer simulation to complex electrical machines problems using MATLAB/SIMSCAPE software. This module teaches and assesses SM2fl, EA2fl, D1fl, ET6fl, EP2fl and develops SM3fl, D3fl, ET3fl, EP3fl and G1, G2, G3m of the AHEP3 for CEng.

Entry requirements

Normally, you should have at least a lower second class honours degree (2.2) in an engineering-related subject; for instance, BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronics Engineering, BEng (Hons) Electronics and Computing, BEng (Hons) Systems Engineering or BSc (Hons) Physics. Your application will also be considered if you have alternative equivalent qualifications with extensive relevant work experience and can demonstrate specific competence in electrical and electronic engineering. We may invite you for an interview or request a portfolio of work. We welcome your application if you hold a degree awarded by an overseas institution. The University will assess the equivalence of your qualifications.
