Education MA

UNIVERSITY OF BRIGHTON
Overall Rating

It is a very different university experience being a part-time MA student, but so far I have really enjoyed it. Access to resources is good, support from lecturers is great, and I love living in the Brighton area.

Student Union

As a part-time MA student who lives off-campus, I have very little interaction with the Student Union. This is because I already engage in many activities outside work, and don't feel the need to join SU clubs.

Clubs and Societies

I don't know.

Uni Facilities

From those that I have seen, the library is small but very well-stocked with Education material. The School of Education has plenty of resources for what I need it for.

Course and Lecturers

Lessons are discussion-based, which enable us to explore themes which directly impact on our own context. Lecturers don't 'teach' in its conventional form, but this discussion is much more enjoyable and productive, in my opinion.

My small class size risks diminishing wealth of discussion, as there are fewer differing contexts to discuss and analyse.

City Life

I have lived in Brighton for a number of years and love it. The city is well-located near the South Downs, the sea and London, and there is always something to do, no matter your background or interests.

Job Prospects

Being on a part-time course, I am already in employment, but the university supports me to improve my transferable skills during lessons and through independent study. These skills (report writing, for example), are useful both in my studies but also in the workplace.

I also get the opportunity to discuss themes and initiatives with fellow students and industry experts, which improves my knowledge of the education sector, thus improving my employability.

Student Support

Excellent - even though I am not at uni very often, my tutors are always available and on hand to provide support to me and my peers. Although I don't need additional support, it's good to know that it's available.
