UNIVERSITY OF BRISTOL
Overall Rating

HORRENDOUS
SOUL DESTROYING
I would like to add I am not some bitter person who failed and it holding the university accountable. I am on track for a distinction. I am saying it is not worth it. I have not learned a valuable range of skill I have learnt to code and how may ribs a horse has.

Student Union

Clubs and Societies

Lots of variety and investment in sports, good integration and loved in when I was there. If you do a land sport (rugby football etc) you do have to travel a very long way (1.5 miles UPHILL) so bad if you don't have a car.

Accommodation

Accommodation is expensive for student town but it's not a student town at the end of the day. Lots going on, shops, cafes etc that make it a lovely place to live but accept you'll be paying upwards of £450 a month for rent, most likely in the £500-550 mark.

Uni Facilities

No computers available, poor library spaces and all but one close at 10pm even during exam season. Some computers don't even have word on them. Wasn't able to complete a coursework because the uni computers had the wrong hard drive or something? And for coding it didn't line up.

Course and Lecturers

You might as well do a coding masters because that's what this is. Of my 10 modules only 2 weren't coding based. Uni offers no help with this (drop in lab session, one on one time with lecturers/tutors). Anatomy module are paired with vets so enjoy learning extensively about the anatomy of a dog which will be less that useful any time in your career.
Dissertation titles are all coding based, if you try and learn otherwise they will remind you that despite paying £11,000 you aren't funding your dissertation so unfortunately you cannot change it that much.
Alongside this you are dealing with an entire staff of idiots. From exam results being released on 4 different website (1 or 2 on each, not all results on one page like competent administrators), to lecturers entering your grades wrong online. Be prepared for stress inducing errors that make you think you've failed or missed a deadline.
After finishing my exams at 4pm on Friday (term started the Monday) I had received an email whilst in the exam hall to alert me that I had 2 hours of videos to watch before Monday at 11am. Bristol has a bad rep for student mental health and I can see why. You need at least a weekend off to destress. Being told you already have work for the next term before even finishing one term is horrendous and complete mistreatment of students.
Honestly do not go here.

City Life

Yes

Job Prospects

Uni workplace department is very good, useful for looking over CV's. However, distinct LACK of appointments. They go live online at 8pm the night before and if you're not on. my 8:10 you will not get an appointment, approx 15 a day.
