Secondary Education with QTS: Art and Design (11-16 years) PGCE

Overall Rating

Overall my experience at this university has been good. we have integrated with students from a mixture of topics, I have made some great friends, and I have gained a confidence within myself and my ability to teach.

The university grounds are nice to walk around and there are plenty of areas to eat, drink and spend time with friends.

Student Union

I think the students union do a great job for the undergraduate students, however there could be more offered for the postgraduate students. There is a disconnect between the undergraduates and postgraduates.

Clubs and Societies

There are few clubs around Lancaster now as most shut down during the floods, however the ones that remain are very good and are always full with people.

Uni Facilities

University's facilities get the job done, but they are very old and slow. Computers are slow and I have experiences technical difficulties, the work produced can be very simple and repetitive. Some buildings can be cold and the heating does not work, and the lecture theatres need updating.

Course and Lecturers

I like that the tutors are very encouraging and supportive when it comes to the work and issues which may arise.

The course can be a little unorganised at times and as a student I can feel a little rushed.

City Life

I am on the Lancaster campus and the city is very small, but everyone is friendly and there are plenty of shops.

The clubs and bars have mostly shut down so the nightlife could be improved but it's more about the company you have rather than where you are based.

Job Prospects

They offer careers support, they organise a mixture of placements to ensure that we gain a wide spread of experience, we learn transferable skills and techniques/topic ideas to take into school and teach the pupils.

Student Support

Support offered is at a good level but could be improved. Tutors could support students a little more academically and emotionally. I have had friends who have had counselling and it has taken them 4 months to gain this support.
