Course Summary

In this course you develop your knowledge and teaching skills across many contexts, from higher education to clinical practice, so you can have the skills you'll need to enhance your career. If you are a professional in health and social care, with a teaching aspect to your role and you’re keen to develop your skills and knowledge in education within your practice setting, then this course will help you to be at the forefront of professional practice education. Your current workplace will be the focus of your learning, so before you can study this course, you'll need to be able to facilitate learning in your practice environment and have the full support from your employer.

Assessment is by your peers and the group, as well as through the reflective portfolios that you develop during the course. When you graduate you will be able to manage and deliver a range of learning activities within practice learning or academic environments. When you graduate you'll be able to effectively co-ordinate and organise a range of learning activities within practice learning environments or academic environments. You'll also be able to support interprofessional learning and working in the context of modern healthcare whilst your experience on the course will also open up a range of opportunities for employment as a clinical educator or within higher education institutions.

This module will enable you to build on your teaching practice experience and apply this to the role of managing learning in your setting. You will focus on the management and leadership of learning in both a professional practice and education setting. In addition you will experience the application of appropriate theories to the management and quality assurance of the learning environment and student assessment. The quality agenda is also a high priority in professional practice and this module aims to introduce you to issues of evaluation of education and other quality issues in an interprofessional context. Your learning experience will be supported by electronic learning, lectures, tutorials, group work, and a range of learning resources.

Entry requirements

Students need to have an existing professional qualification in an aspect of healthcare such as nursing, radiography or occupational therapy. We will also consider their application if they have experience of working in a relevant field.
