The University of Exeter is a Russell Group university located on the south-west coast of England. It’s known for its international research output and teaching quality, hosting more than 30,000 students from over 150 countries around the world. Exeter was ranked 19th in the UK by the Complete University Guide 2023.
The university has four campus sites, of which two are in Exeter while two more are in Penryn and Truro. Students at Exeter are able to study across these small but vibrant coastal cities and towns, which combine the best of British coastal landscapes, thousands of years of history and excellent academic facilities.
Exeter is a popular student city and is highly ranked for livability and opportunities across the UK. Students can enjoy exploring the compact city and its many restaurants, boutiques and bars during their downtime, as well as easy connections to cities like Bristol or London by bus and train.

The University of Exeter offers students a comprehensive range of postgraduate courses across taught, research and doctoral levels of study.
Most postgraduate programmes at Exeter are master’s degrees, which offer advanced tuition in a certain subject area and allow students to tailor their modules to suit their objectives. Students will be able to pursue MA, MSc and MRes degrees at master’s level.
Exeter is constantly increasing the size and quality of its distance learning study options, including fully online degrees and hybrid courses that combine online learning with intensive ‘block teaching’ on campus.

Students applying for a taught master’s course at the University of Exeter will typically need to achieve an undergraduate degree at 2:2 honours level or above. In some cases, relevant professional or personal experience may be considered as part of the application for a course. Individual postgraduate courses at Exeter have different academic requirements according to the subject area they relate to.
For example, applicants to the MSc Data Science will need to have a 2:1 degree or higher in a subject with a strong numerical focus, such as mathematics, computer science or physics. They will also need to show programming ability. Relevant professional experience or qualifications may also be considered.
Applicants to the LLM Master of Laws programme will need a 2:1 Honours degree or higher in Law, or international equivalent. Other subjects with a strong legal component may be considered. Applicants with a 2:2 grade degree or other academic background may be considered in light of significant, relevant work experience in legal settings.
Applicants who are not native English speakers will need to provide evidence of their English language proficiency. This can be demonstrated through achievement of various test scores, including IELTS, TOEFL and Pearson.

Exeter offers international students a variety of living arrangements to choose from for the duration of their studies. The university maintains an accommodation guarantee for unaccompanied international students who are starting a postgraduate course with a September entry.
Exeter recognises the needs and preferences of postgraduate students and has a number of postgraduate-only residences for them to use, which can be found in convenient locations around the city. There are several contract lengths to select from and guarantors are not required. In combination with a rental price that includes all bills, postgraduate students can easily and flexibly manage their living arrangements while at the university.
In addition to exclusive facilities around the campus, postgraduate students will also have the support of Residence Life Teams who are always present in accommodation buildings.

The University of Exeter support postgraduate students through a range of scholarships and bursaries, developed to help cover the costs associated with their studies. These awards may be allocated according to academic merit, financial need or the student’s background. Each scholarship or bursary may have different eligibility criteria and application deadlines.
Available awards include the Green Futures Scholarships, which cover tuition fees in full as well as providing a stipend for living costs for up to nine students studying an eligible taught master’s programme.
The university also offers University of Exeter alumni a scholarship that covers 10% of the tuition fees for the first year of their postgraduate study.
A wide range of other merit-based scholarships are available through the university, in addition to various scholarships available through donors to the university who may attach their own eligibility conditions to the award.
Bursaries such as the Care Leavers’ Bursary provide financial assistance to postgraduate students who have been in care, providing full payment of fees for PGCE students in addition to a bursary which will help cover the cost of accommodation.
