Teaching

Assessment

The taught modules on this programme are assessed by a combination of essays, presentations and group work. Following completion of these in April, you will then be assessed by a 15,000-word dissertation for submission in September.

Modules

Having completed two terms of study at the University of Exeter, students on MA Advanced Arabic, MA Middle East Politics and Advanced Arabic, and MA International Relations and Advanced Arabic will take this Study Abroad module, which involves spending 4 weeks in an Arabic-speaking country, attending an intensive language course at one of our partner institutions and practising Arabic in real life situations. This period of study abroad will significantly advance students? fluency in spoken Arabic and knowledge of dialect, and will enable them to gain first-hand experience of Arab society and culture. During their time abroad, students will be supported both by colleagues in the study abroad institution and by a personal tutor from the IAIS (the latter via online media). Assessment will be in the form of assignments and exams set by the partner institution. Prerequisites: Advanced Arabic I., Advanced Arabic II.

Entry requirements

For entry onto this programme we would normally require a 2:1 Honours degree (or equivalent) that includes Arabic or evidence of degree level proficiency. While we normally only accept applicants who meet this criteria, if you have a high 2:2 or equivalent, are coming from a different academic background which is equivalent to degree level, or have relevant work experience, we would welcome your application.
