PGCE Secondary History

UNIVERSITY OF EXETER
Overall Rating

I loved my undergrad at Exeter and came back to do my PGCE because I knew it was exactly right for me. The Campuses are beautiful and always have places to go to study/spend time. The academic and pastoral staff are all lovely and really care about their students. I have felt very academically supported by the university.

The main limitation was the move to ELE2 and the general issues with the IT. IT is not Exeter's strongsuit. Its team is trying they're best but they are not miracle workers when facing a failing but somehow "new" system

Accommodation

I loved my time in Cook Mews, it really helped shape my university experience. I met some of my best friends and the majority of my peer group across Cook and Lleweylln. I loved having the trains right out the window!
The rooms were really spacious and had lots of storage and desk space.
The communal kitchen and bathroom were cleaned by a professional every week on top of our own cleaning so it always felt hygienic. (I was a covid fresher and this really helped me feel confident and comfortable).
The building did not have its own laundry room, so having to trek all the way to Birks was a struggle (There is something inherently undignified about having to walk 10 minutes to Birks Block A, which invovles crossing a main road, with a bag of your damp laundry. This for me was my worst rah/exetah moment as we were one of the cheapest accomodations basically being paraded to one of the more expensive catered halls)

The staff were wonderful and I had lovely interactions with all of them.

It was exactly what you paid for - cheap and cheerful that gets the job done. It is absolutely the right environment to make good friends and embrace the university lifestyle, without feeling the pressure of larger and more expensive accomodations. I would highly recommend this accomodation to anyone.
