This course equips students with the skills to take on the wide range of careers offered by an exciting industry and influential profession. Landscape architects play a role in shaping everything from national parks and city layouts, to World Heritage Sites and school playgrounds. Career opportunities include working as a landscape architect in private practice or in public and charity sectors, as well as in landscape planning, project management and garden design. Learning takes place in a studio-based environment, through a combination of lectures, tutorials, seminars and student-led research. Teaching techniques combine the practice and philosophy of landscape architecture with a focus on innovation, creativity, personal development, expression, professionalism and sustainability. Modules

This module concentrates on drawing together students? previous research knowledge and experience at undergraduate level, challenging their understanding of academic research and of applied research within the design industries. The module offers students a broad grounding in methods and processes of social science research and prepares them with the understanding and skills needed to rigorously design, conduct, report and evaluate research. Students will be exposed to a variety of cutting-edge research practices and will also be introduced to opportunities and challenges of conducting applied research using some of the main data collection and analysis techniques that are relevant to industry.

Entry requirements

Applicants need to have at least a 2.2 honours degree or equivalent in landscape architecture or landscape design (for direct entry onto the MA, or an undergraduate degree in any field of 2:2 or above for the conversion MA). They will be invited to attend an interview. A portfolio of work showing evidence of their current creative work and experience is essential.
