Psychology PhD

UNIVERSITY OF GLOUCESTERSHIRE
Overall Rating

I’ve been at post-grad student with UoG for about 4 years now, I completed my MSc in 2019 and started my PhD February the following year. Going from taught lessons to research can be a bit of a shock as research based programs are independent. UoG has a lot to offer, there are great lecturers, great tutors. The only I will say is they don’t make their student support resources too well known, you have to search hard for them if you need them. They offer wonderful counselling services and that’s where I heard about most student support options; however, if I hadn’t used their counselling service I’m not sure I would have known where to even began looking for student support.
Completing a research course, you’re on your own and although there is a post-grad research group, it can be very hard to navigate. I feel that sometimes tutors are overworked so there isn’t as much support as on taught programmes where you have in person lectures.

Accommodation

I stayed in the halls at Pittville during my MSc. I was in a studio, I think Pittville is a bit far from things, it can be about a 30min walk into town and a 40min walk to the nearest tesco, which made food shopping a bit difficult. Overall, if I had known cheltenham better I would have found my own flat for my MSc
