Doctorate in Business Administration DBA

UNIVERSITY OF GLOUCESTERSHIRE
Overall Rating

I am a mature foreign student. My first shock was cultural, on 2 levels - teaching/learning style and then social. But using foreign student ambassadors helped me settle in socially. The approach to DBA learning was a welcome surprise; we were treated like colleagues and even peers, vastly different from the style at Masters level.
I couldn't secure accommodation for me and my family. I was directed to some websites which helped. Found some places but no guarantor or acceptable references. Fortunately, a total stranger stood in for me. To date, I have never met her. But, bless her. Having partnerships with property companies will definitely help those in my situation in future.
Then the work hour limits: Being self-funded, it has become difficult for me to sustain myself and family on £200/week especially with a cost of living crisis. I have no more lectures only research for the next 3 years but worrying impedes the study time too. Perhaps, recommendations can be made to policy makers to reconsider pushing the limit towards a 30hr mark/week. Yes, I should have provided for my 4-year stay here beforehand. Things changed at home.
School environment - beautiful.
Work environment - great.
Access to online resources = great.
FutureLearn? Great resource.

Improvement opportunities?
Broaden learning materials to capture more non-European & American resources. So much coming out of Africa that is not acknowledged.
Look into acting as or partnering with accommodation guarantors for students with families.
Propose increasing work limit to 30hrs/week especially for research stage students so they don't run foul of the law.

Cheers
