This module aims to enable trainees to: extend professional knowledge, scholarship and understanding in relation to Maths education; critally examine and reflect on the place of Maths in the curriculum; become flexible and creative Mathematicians who are confident working in schools and other Maths education contexts; be proactive in developing the necessary breadth and depth of knowledge to be an effective teacher in the secondary school context; understand the ways that pupils learn and to develop the necessary pedagogical skills to bring about Mathematical learning; develop intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm for their subject.

Entry requirements

Students should have a 2:2 or above in an honours degree in a relevant subject plus GCSE English language and mathematics at grade C or above, or a recognised equivalent. We will accept equivalency tests from Equivalency Testing for Career Development and A* Star Teachers. In addition candidates must: attend an interview; pass pre-entry skills tests in numeracy and literacy should before beginning the programme; undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check and an occupational health screening.
