Taught
Interested in teaching sports? Want a rewarding career as a PE teacher? Begin your training at Greenwich with a PGCE in Physical Education at secondary level.
High-quality PE and sports are vital for keeping young people physically fit and able. Our popular course provides specialist training in teaching physical education and sports. We aim to develop PE teachers capable of working effectively across a range of teaching and practical activities in secondary school settings.
We provide you with essential knowledge and skills in this important area of education, such as the professional, statutory and regulatory requirements within the PE sector. Your training takes place in two different secondary schools and in university environments. By the end of your studies, you will be a confident, competent and effective teacher of physical education with the ability to reflect on both theory and practice.
Careers and placements
Will I have a work placement?
Placements are a core element of teacher training which enable our trainees to put theory into practice in a supportive environment.
We are extremely lucky to work with a wide range of partners across London, Essex and Kent to support our trainees. We work closely with trainees when deciding on placements to ensure that trainees get the best training possible whilst on our programmes.
Our strong partnerships ensure our trainees are well supported and have outstanding experiences whilst training with us.
How long is my placement?
Placement A is from October to December. Placement B is from January to June.
Do you provide employability services?
Our services are designed to help you achieve your potential and support your transition towards a rewarding graduate career.
The Employability and Careers Service provides support when you are preparing to apply for placements and graduate roles. It includes CV clinics, mock interviews and employability skills workshops.
Each School also has its own Employability Officer, who works closely with the industry and will provide specific opportunities relevant to your own course.
