Course Summary

This course has been designed to enhance your career as an engineering designer and aims to advance you to positions in design management.

The course offers a balanced suite of modules that will explore technical deepening, technical broadening and management. In addition, you will undertake a substantial project that will allow you to develop your own particular interests within the broad area of mechanical engineering design.

Technical broadening within modules covering Finite Element Analysis, Dynamic Analysis and Aerodynamics and Air Management is used to ensure you are equipped to effectively study the more advanced elements of the e further advanced modules will take you much deeper into these subject areas as the course progresses.

Further technical and non-technical modules within Quality Maintenance and Reliability, Project Management and New Product development modules will equip you to progress to management roles soon after graduation.

Graduates should leave the course equipped to undertake non-linear solid, complex dynamic and advanced computational fluid dynamic analysis.

The project provides the opportunity to undertake a major programme of advanced independent work. Where possible the project is carried out in collaboration with an industrial company and takes place at the company. A project supervisor is then allocated at the University who would check and confirm if the project is suitable for a Master's level course.

Entry requirements for this course are normally: An Honours degree (2:2 or above) in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Systems or a closely related science subject area or an equivalent professional qualification.
