Geography and Earth Science research at the University of Hull is renowned for its international scope and relevance across human and physical geography and geology. Specialisms at Hull include mass extinction research; simulating water and sediment flows on flood plains and Mars; environmental policy and governance; and mapping the historic connections between women’s property ownership and status.

We are a world-class centre of excellence for interdisciplinary research into, and postgraduate study of both human and physical environments, as well as earth science. We also offer opportunities for multidisciplinary research between geography and other subject areas at PhD level.

We offer research opportunities in Human Geography, as well as PhD options in the research areas of your choice, providing we can match you up with a supervisor whose area of expertise matches your proposal.

Human Geography

Our human geography research is divided into two themes:

Environment and spaces of governance
Knowledges, cultures and space

Physical Geography and Earth Sciences

We separate our physical geography research into three themes:

Sediment and flow dynamics
System response to environmental change
Aquatic systems and resources.

Course fees for UK / EU students

£4,407 per year. The mentioned fee is for year 19-20 there may be slight increase on 20/21.

Entry requirements

You should normally have, or expect to obtain, at least 2:1 Honours degree (or international equivalent) in a related subject.
