Legal Practice Course LPC

THE UNIVERSITY OF LAW
Overall Rating

Campus: B'ham/Online

The course is largely self taught. There are pre-recorded lectures and weekly SSS' (subject support sessions) for each module which are only 30mins and rather rushed. Saying that though, you can put any questions on a module discussion board or email tutors. Some are more supportive than others.

As it is largely self taught, you must be good with time management as tasks must be done by Fridays at midday. Also there is a vast amount of work to learn and do compared to UG level. You only have sight of 1 specimen exam per module and the library doesn't hold any further for you to practice with.

Disabled students may have problems with obtaining reasonable adjustments. Before starting the LPC I declared that I had a disability which I asked them to accommodate via reasonable adjustments. They said that they couldn't do so until I paid the standard £250 fee. Now students do not have to pay this.

Since then, despite ULaw having medical evidence from my specialist and agreeing to adjustments, they have failed to implement them. Different departments palm you off so you get nowhere - so disabled students please be aware.

Many students do not realise until they start the course that if you fail 1 exam then your entire classification will be capped at a pass if incorporating a MSc or LLM. Seems harsh but more transparency seems required on this as none of my cohort were aware of it.

If you can attend a physical red brick uni then I would advise that you attend this as the support is likely to be better there. Take your money elsewhere. I wish I had.
