Our Food Science (Food Biotechnology) MSc engages with issues at the very forefront of modern food production. Not only will you advance your knowledge of crucial areas within food science, health and sustainability, but you’ll also explore the origins of biotechnology, the legislation and social issues related to biotechnology in food and modern bioanalytical methods in biotechnology and food safety.

Modules

On completion of this module students should be able to: (a) understand the principles and applications of nucleic acids amplification in biosensing; (b) understand the principles and applications of biomolecular recognition in biosensing and imaging; (c) understand the uses and limitations of biosensing in biological samples and food; (d) understand the opportunities offered by cutting-edge biosensing technologies for food and health; (e) understand the principles behind GMOs and their detection in food.

Entry requirements

A bachelor degree with a 2:1 (hons) in a subject containing biology and chemistry content. A bachelor degree with a 2:2 (hons) will be considered for candidates with food related industry and/or research experience.
