Course Summary

This degree will provide you with the knowledge and skills required of a professional engineer to design embedded systems for use in control, diagnostics, monitoring and communications. Core elements of the course include state-of-the-art techniques in control system design, signal processing and software design. This degree is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Institute of Measurement and Control (InstMC).

Teaching methods include lectures and seminars supported by practical and lab work. Assessment is a mix of open and closed exams and continuous assessment. Your dissertation will be assessed separately. You have the option of choosing to study this course ‘with industry’ in which a paid industrial placement forms part of your course, including your overall assessment through reflective learning. Whether or not you opt for the ‘with industry’ variant of the course which is 2 years full time, it is designed to give you the tools to work towards a career in a wide variety of fields in the engineering and technical industries.

Modules

This module will provide an introduction to the use of MATLAB as an interactive medium, a data analysis tool and as a program development environment. You will then be split according to your degree discipline and be introduced to either Simulink, the Communications toolbox, PSpice or SolidWorks as appropriate. This module belongs to semester one.
