Course Summary

This course is for you if you want to develop an advanced understanding of theoretical and applied microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics. This course allows you to study economics at an in-depth postgraduate level. You will study a sequence of economics modules that is widely recognised as standard graduate training. The course will provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate your acquired skills by applying them to a research topic of your choice. You will gain a strong command of analytical techniques, computing and research methods for problem-solving, and develop your critical analysis of economic theories and debates. The course will equip you with advanced research and communication skills, both written and oral.

Teaching will consist of a combination of lectures, seminars and computer labs. Research methods will be taught through a series of lectures and one-to-one supervision with your dissertation supervisor. Core modules will be assessed through a combination of coursework and traditional exams. On completion this programme will provide you with a unique skill set in economics and data analytics that will make you particularly well-suited to jobs that require a high level of numeracy and analytical skills.

Entry requirements

Students need either 2:1 degree in economics (or equivalent) from a recognised university or 2:2 degree in economics (or equivalent) and a minimum of a 2:1 in each final year module in microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics, or equivalent from a recognised university.
