Course Summary

This suite of CPD short courses is for you if you are looking to top up your DipHE in Operating Department Practice, or if you wish to undertake stand-alone modules to enhance your professional development. Most of the short courses are delivered through lectures, seminars and learning technologies. You will also undertake clinical practice to gain the experience and skills required. Assessment is based on a mixture of coursework, ePortfolios for clinical and professional practice, simulation, discussion forums and a drug calculation exam. There is a blend of formative and summative assessments. The potential career options for graduates, employability skills and experience gained through these courses include advancement to NHS Band 6/7/8 posts such as clinical speciality-based roles, management, SCP, PA or education roles.

Entry requirements

You must: be registered with either the HCPC or the NMC; be currently employed in a relevant area. We will provide you with a Learning Agreement for your employer to sign, confirming that they can provide the support necessary for you to attend the course and achieve the learning outcomes; provide evidence of completed studies at diploma (DipHE) or advanced diploma, or Level 5 (FHEQ) studied within the past 5 years. (This can be a full qualification or modular achievement.) If you cannot meet criterion 3, the University may accept satisfactory evidence of previous serious study and of the academic aptitude to pursue the course. This may include the requirement to take a Return to Study programme at the University.
