2010 saw the coming together of the School of Law and the Department of Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology to form the School of Law and Social Justice at the University of Liverpool – a School with social justice at its core and with over one hundred years of heritage.
The combination of these two departments saw the School bring the research and expertise of its staff and students together into one community. As of 2020, this community has also found a new home within a brand-new building on the Liverpool campus – a dedicated location on Chatham Street called the School of Law and Social Justice Building.
The School presents an opportunity for shared knowledge and ideas, as well as cross-departmental work and support, both within the School, across the wider University, and beyond. This can be seen in the importance that the overarching theme of social justice plays within and across the departments’ postgraduate programmes.
As a Russell Group institution, the teaching within the School is internationally renowned. This educational reputation is based on the knowledge of internationally recognised experts within the School – a broad community of academics who produce research of international excellence. The School’s postgraduate programmes are fed by this substantial research, and provide advanced theoretical and practical training in postgraduate-level research.
The School offers an environment where students can thrive and feel supported whilst studying. There is ample opportunity for students to grow and develop academically, professionally and personally, with a range of careers opportunities, strong industry connections and a global network of more than 230,000 alumni to become a part of.
The School’s brand new building provides a number of additional benefits to those studying on a postgraduate course, including a new dedicated events space, coffee shop and study spaces. The building also hosts new spaces for the Liverpool Law Clinic and Interchange.
