The university was founded in 1881 and today hosts tens of thousands of students from around the world. Liverpool’s campus is centrally located in the city, just a short journey from the river and famous sites like the Royal Albert docks. This 100-acre site is home to a mix of impressive Victorian and modern architecture, cutting-edge facilities and a wide range of services and amenities.
Liverpool is a world-famous UK city, home to a rich arts and cultural scene, with a particular focus on music due to a history of legendary bands forming in the area, and a vibrant waterfront urban centre. Applicants to the MPhil in Archaeology will need a relevant undergraduate degree at 2:1 or first-class level, or a 2:2 degree combined with a master’s qualification. Applicants looking to conduct research towards a PhD in Archaeology are welcomed but are usually expected to have a first-class bachelor’s or a 2:1 combined with a master’s degree.

The university aims to group postgraduate accommodation applicants together in its Philharmonic Court residences. This residence offers a range of self-catered, en-suite rooms in a modern building centred around an attractive courtyard. Other university accommodation options also offer safe, clean and sociable living, and all university residences benefit from CCTV security, as well as a 24hr reception in many cases.
Some postgraduate students might choose to rent privately elsewhere in Liverpool. The city is home to a huge range of rented accommodation to choose from, and students can get support in their accommodation search from the students’ union.
