Course Summary

This is an innovative course providing an exciting opportunity to investigate communication in the context of entrepreneurship and business. The programme will introduce you to the multidisciplinary dimensions of professional communication, exploring in detail how linguistic analysis can illuminate and enhance communication in businesses and a range of other workplaces. The principle of language study we have established at Nottingham combines theoretical and ideological dimensions with highly practical applications. The course explores the role of communication in business-related human affairs using a variety of approaches, ranging from discourse analysis and interactional sociolinguistics to corpus linguistics. This course aims to explore the how linguistic analysis can enhance communication in business and entrepreneurial practices. You will be introduced to multidiscipline dimensions of communication studies as well as learn the skills required to analyse and develop business strategy and communication. The project affords you the opportunity of investigating and enhancing communication within a specific commercial or work-related site or environment, as well as developing the potential of your own entrepreneurial ideas. Entrepreneurship in Context will introduce students to the more practical elements of innovation and enterprise activity across multiple contexts, including not just new venture creation but corporate and social entrepreneurship as well. While Entrepreneurship & Creativity focuses on idea generation and entrepreneurial theory, Entrepreneurship in Practice will prepare you to recognise opportunities, and to implement innovation and enterprising ideas.
