UNIVERSITY OF ST ANDREWS
Overall Rating

I love St Andrews, but I feel that I have had a lucky experience as I live in university accommodation in the centre of town so don't have to experience a long commute or crippling rent. I am also the type of person that prefers a night in the pub, going to the cinema or a house party to a proper night out clubbing, so I don't mind that St Andrews is very small and doesn't have all the trappings of a large city.

Accommodation

There is not enough accommodation to cater for the students of the university, and some have to live outside St Andrews in the small surrounding villages or in Dundee, which means expensive and time consuming commuting. I think this is something that the university should be addressing by building as much university accommodation as possible but despite it being a common problem this has not been resolved. It is also the case that much of the university accommodation is either very old and outdated or very expensive.

City Life

St Andrews is a very small town and there aren't really any nightclubs so social life tends to centre around pubs, the student union and house-parties. I much prefer this to nights out in big cities but it is not for everyone and you have to e honest with yourself about what kind of social life you want. That said, it is a lovely, picturesque town with three gorgeous beaches, lots of beautiful old buildings and some great independent shops.
