UNIVERSITY OF STRATHCLYDE
Overall Rating

Disappointing as the expectation doesn't match the reality.
Things have changed into more complicated instead of simplified blended teaching. No real life application.

Student Union

Could definitely be improved. Not as responsive as hoped.
Doesn't cater too much for mature international students unfortunately.

Clubs and Societies

Tons of options and can be very overwhelming to choose.
Does not feel that welcoming though. Sports membership is expensive.

Accommodation

I have dependents and it took me 22 viewings to get to the 2 bedroom flat that I'm currently renting without any assistance from the university whatsoever. It's really frustrating and disappointing especially for an international student like myself.

1. Safety - could be improved
2. Condition - old and unfurnished
3. Location - quite far from the University. Have to commute by subway for 20 minutes daily to get to lectures etc. About 9.4km away.
4. Cost - could be more affordable considering how far I'm staying from the University

Uni Facilities

Overall good facilities however distance can be an issue especially with the hilltop climb and all. Not that disability/children friendly.

Course and Lecturers

Dislikes:
1. For an innovatively titled course - it's frustrating and disappointing that there are manual calculations still need to be done. Felt really backwards teaching instead of future. Was asked to buy a scientific calculator for my course!
2. Too academic and exam oriented which is surprising.
3. Expectation of the course being taught is far from reality which is such a letdown. Egomaniac lecturers who can't be bothered to really help struggling students.
4. Ever changing scheduling

Likes:
1. Some subjects are more future ready than the others and well taught off

City Life

No. Quite far from affordable private accommodation especially for international students with family. The private flat or accommodation near the university is too expensive.

Job Prospects

A lot of events & careers service options available, however, internal job market/opportunities especially for students wasn't forthcoming. Lack of vacancies available for part-time work while studying despite having the experience.

Student Support

1. Average really for mature international students with Tier4 visas
2. Students are treated as an unappreciated commodity instead of real empathy
