Strathclyde has made several key investments into its infrastructure in recent years, including the building of the new £31 million Strathclyde Sport Building, which features superb sports and exercise facilities, with multiple sports halls, a 25-metre swimming pool and a fully equipped fitness centre. It has also built a £60 million Learning & Teaching Building, which houses the students’ union, student support services and state-of-the-art teaching facilities.
The university has four academic faculties – Strathclyde Business School, Engineering, Science, and Humanities & Social Sciences. Strathclyde Business School is one of fewer than 100 schools to have triple accreditation from AACSB, AMBA and EQUIA, and the Engineering faculty is the largest in the country.

Postgraduate
The University of Strathclyde is a fantastic place to gain a postgraduate qualification, supported by the quality of the curriculum and the student experience which living in Glasgow offers.
The university offers over 200+ postgraduate programmes (including MSc, PgDip and PgCert accreditations) and numerous PhD and postgraduate research opportunities. A large number of postgraduate study options are available to students as research, taught or distance learning degrees. Taught courses are typically delivered through a series of lectures, workshops and classes, with assessments in the form of projects, essays, research projects and exams. Students have the option of studying part-time over a longer period, a good option for those who are in full-time employment or have existing personal commitments to balance.

Entry requirements vary based on specific course and level of study. There are various pathways to entry, and the university encourages anyone who has the desire to attend Strathclyde to submit an application. Typically, to study a course at masters level students will need to achieve an upper second-class honours degree, or the equivalent overseas qualification.
To study for a PhD, students are required to have achieved a first-class honours degree, or the equivalent overseas qualification. Entry requirements are course dependent, full details will be available in the course description on the university website.
International students will need to demonstrate the required level of English language ability. This is generally assessed using TOEFL or IELTS test results.
The University of Strathclyde International Study Centre offers a Pre-master’s programme for international students who do not meet the admissions requirements. After completing this programme, students can progress to study a postgraduate degree.

The university’s students’ union promotes, represents and supports the interests and welfare of all students. Strath Union (SU) has over 206 clubs and societies to choose from, all offering students the opportunity to get involved in something they feel passionate about, while meeting new people and building friendships which can last a lifetime. Strathclyde Sports Union proudly hosts over 50 sports clubs; whether outdoor or indoor, competitive, or recreational, everyone can take part.

Clubs and societies
Strath Union runs a wide range of societies, both course and subject-related as well as interest and hobby-based - more than 200 in total. They include many different topics of interest, such as the Chess Club, Knitters Anonymous, Mature Students Association and Strathclyde Marketing Network. Many are inexpensive or even free to join and present a huge variety of opportunities to meet people from outside the classroom, socialise, learn new skills or develop existing interests. Students can also take on positions of responsibility by helping to run a society, or even setting up a completely new one in the case where it is not already established. The students’ union can provide assistance and organisational support in doing this.
The university also has a TV station and newspaper run by students, a Comic Writers and Artists Society and Re-Act Theatre Group. A wide range of sports clubs is available, too. City life
Glasgow is Scotland’s biggest and most cosmopolitan city. It has a long and rich history as a trade and shipbuilding hub, and later as a centre for industry and academia. The streets are furnished with superb examples of Victorian and art nouveau architecture, while the city is home to both modern and established cultural institutions such as the National Theatre of Scotland and the Scottish Opera, as well as a range of contemporary art galleries, theatres, museums and live music venues.
Students will find plenty of things to explore, along with a friendly welcome (Rough Guide readers voted Glasgow the world’s friendliest city). There is a multitude of restaurants, lively bars and cafes, and a thriving underground music scene with some of the best local and international artists regularly performing.
The university campus is situated in the city centre, next to the Merchant City, making it the perfect base for sightseeing, shopping, and socialising alongside studying.

Finding suitable accommodation is a major aspect of an enjoyable university experience. There are many factors to consider, such as proximity to campus, size and comfort of room, level of privacy, opportunities to socialise and, of course, cost.
Most universities have their own halls of residence buildings, where first-year students can reserve a room for the duration of term-time. One of the many advantages with doing this is that they offer a convenient package deal which includes all utilities bills, internet connection, insurance, and often a security detail or concierge service.
Situated on campus and close to the university buildings, Strathclyde’s Campus Village houses over 1,440 students in self-catered rooms, with a dedicated onsite management team and night porter outside office hours. The Campus Village includes an open study area, laundrette and is close to shops, restaurants, and bars.

Facilities
Strathclyde is transforming the campus and creating a first-class working and learning environment for students, with investments set to reach £1 billion by 2025.
Strathclyde Sport is a £31 million sports centre, complete with state-of-the-art fitness and wellbeing facilities. The £60 million Learning & Teaching building is home to a new student learning village (lecture theatres, study, and social spaces), most student support services, Strath Union, Strathclyde Doctoral School and much more.
Student reviewers regularly praise the university’s world-class IT facilities, including the computer labs (many of which are open 24 hours a day) and WiFi zones across the campus. They also rate the university library highly. The library collection is spread over five floors, with a range of study spaces with Wi-Fi access throughout. There is also a café and small take-away coffee shop to keep students fuelled during study hours.

The University of Strathclyde understands the need for free, fast and effective student support. Studying a postgraduate degree can present certain organisational challenges, periods of stress or work-related pressure, and additionally there can be difficulties in moving away from home or to a new country, or personal issues which require a kind and thoughtful response.
Fortunately, there are a number of support facilities on offer at the university, including the information and advice team, who specialise in academic, welfare, immigration and personal issues. There is also a student health service offering self-help resources. Counselling sessions and workshops are available to support students, as well as a student finance support team and chaplaincy centre.

Strathclyde offers a range of scholarships for UK, EU and overseas students. There are over 200 taught courses on offer to study at masters and diploma level. Each course comprises of a mix of compulsory classes and elective topics for students to choose from, delivered through lectures, seminars, and practical work. Site visits and placements are the basis of many of Strathclyde’s courses. Research projects also form an integral part of the university’s courses. Typically, students will write a dissertation specialising in a particular area of study during the final months of their degree. A personal tutor is allocated to support students through both the taught and research elements of their course.
Research
Research is at the heart of everything that Strathclyde does, with almost 90% of research rated world-leading or internationally excellent (REF 2021). It informs the university’s undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and allows them to translate findings into making a positive impact on business, industry, and society as a whole.
There are 33 areas of study available for a research degree, either as an MRes, MPhil, PhD or EngD. The graduate schools offer a friendly and supportive study environment for research students, and staff and fellow research students are extremely supportive.
Distance learning
Over 30 courses are available to study remotely by web-based learning. Students have access to tutors and support staff throughout their learning, as well as online discussions with fellow students. All the material needed to study is available on the virtual learning environment (VLE), which is regularly updated. Each module typically includes two pieces of assessment.
