This course will help you pursue an exciting career as a bridge engineer with a consultancy, specialist contractor or local authority.

What you will study

Our MSc Bridge Engineering course is designed to provide you with a solid understanding of bridge analysis, design and management. If you’re a practising bridge engineer, our MSc will enable you to update your existing knowledge and skills and familiarise yourself with new industry-relevant techniques.

This course covers a wide range of modules which address the whole life-analysis of bridges from design through to end-of-life. You’ll also have a choice of optional modules from the areas of:

  • Structural engineering
  • Geotechnical engineering
  • Water/environmental engineering
  • Construction management
  • Infrastructure engineering and management.

Modules

This module is concerned with the design of steel and steel and concrete composite bridges. More emphasis is placed on understanding the fundamentals of steel and steel/concrete composite bridge design especially stability and buckling during erection rather than just complying with prescriptive code requirements. However, some of the course is devoted to understanding the nuances of Eurocodes 3 & 4 and also BS5400 where appropriate.
