Course Summary

This course will challenge and inspire you. It offers the benefits of a master's degree in communication combined with practical skills and industry experience in advertising and branding. On the course you will develop strategic thinking, advertising strategies, and communication skills, you will use these to create innovative advertising, brand and design campaigns for businesses. You will also work on briefs set by professional companies and be mentored by industry professionals. Through these projects and through lectures, group tutorials and industry visits, you will develop an in-depth understanding of brand communication, professional graphic design and advertising strategy.

The course content is divided into five categories: creative, practice, theoretical, research methods and management. These categories reflect the breadth and depth of knowledge you need as a professional in today’s competitive global design and communication management industries. The course will also help you to develop your skills in project work and competitive pitching. As part of a postgraduate student design team, you will assume different design and advertising industry roles – brand designer, account handler, graphic designer, strategist – and learn as you create and produce work. This process will help you to develop a creative collaborative approach to solving communication problems. You will also gain experience of working in a broad range of roles to develop innovative advertising, brand and design campaigns. Throughout the course, you will work industry hours and at industry pace, and in the final stages of your studies, you will be able to develop an independent project based on your new knowledge.

When you graduate you will be qualified for a broad range of careers. You could work as a: brand and design manager; marketer; creative director; senior designer; design team leader; art director etc.

Entry requirements

Students should have an honours degree (2:2 or above) from a UK university or equivalent. We may also offer a place based on relevant experience or training, normally from within the work environment. All applications are considered individually.
