Course Summary

Yorkshire Teaching School Alliance is based at St Aidan's CE High School, an outstanding school which is situated in Harrogate. The alliance is made up of a host of secondary schools. We are committed to outstanding teacher training and our experienced mentors and staff will ensure that you receive excellent provision. The University of York Department of Education is working with Yorkshire Teaching School Alliance to provide School Direct training in the following subjects: Biology; Chemistry; English; History; Mathematics; Modern Languages; Physics.

Trainee teachers selected for the Yorkshire Teaching School Alliance School Direct route, will be placed in two secondary schools within Yorkshire Teaching School Alliance. They will engage in a range of School Direct learning events hosted by Yorkshire TSA lead school St Aidan's CE High School. On successful completion of the course, School Direct trainees will be awarded a University of York PGCE at Masters Level, and recommended for QTS. School Direct trainees work University of York PGCE trainees at the University of York for Curriculum Area sessions. Whole School Issues sessions are delivered at St. Aidan's CE High School.

School Direct trainees must meet all of the Teachers' Standards, engage in all University and school training sessions, complete three school placements, the Professional Enrichment project and the 3 Masters level assignments. A wealth of extra curricular and professional training opportunities will be offered to School Direct trainees by the Yorkshire Teaching School Alliance.

Entry requirements

The basic qualification is a degree or a degree equivalent relevant to the subject(s) to be taught. In assessing the appropriateness of degree courses where the degree title does not match a teaching subject, an applicant must be able to demonstrate that the degree contains sufficient study of the teaching subject. All entrants to the course must have qualifications in English language and Mathematics at GCE O-level or GCSE (grade C/ level 4 or above), or hold equivalent qualifications in these subjects.
