The MSc in Law and Finance is a joint programme offered by the Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS) and the School of Economics and Finance.
This specialist programme will give you professional postgraduate training if you wish to advance your career in the City, government or elsewhere in the private sector. It is designed for students with an academic background in Law who want to learn more about finance and Financial students who want to learn more about financial regulations.
What you'll study
You may choose one of three pathways for the MSc Law and Finance:
You select from different relevant taught modules from both law and finance. You will also undertake independent, original research for your dissertation, which will focus on an analysis of the law and finance.
You will have access to an unparalleled set of optional short courses to equip you with practical training and technical skills that are highly valued in the financial sector.
If you want to review or gain a broad understanding of financial and legal concepts, you can attend pre-sessional modules and have access to basic statistics and statistical software.
You will also have voluntary access to an excellent series of lectures in Critical Thinking and Writing in Law to help you to improve your writing and research in law skills.
You can choose the appropriate level of study for you, as we also offer a Postgraduate Certificate in Law and Finance and a Diploma in Law and Finance.
Career paths
This programme will enhance your career options by allowing you to specialise in the highly sought after interdisciplinary areas of law, economics and finance.
You may be able to go on to work at the IMF, the World Bank, investment banks, private equity funds, hedge funds, consulting companies, to work in compliance, advising the regulator, advising governments, or to work in think-tanks or NGOs.
There is a very high rate of employment of our students within six months of graduation. We have dedicated law careers advisers who organise events and internship opportunities with top UK and international law firms.

Students need to have a 2:1 or above at undergraduate level in Law or Economics (Finance); Graduates with a good 2.2 honours degree who also have other legal qualifications and/or substantial professional legal or finance experience may also qualify.
