The University of East Anglia (UEA) is a world-renowned university known for its high standard of academic performance across both taught and research postgraduate courses. Based in Norwich, in the county of Norfolk, the university has an excellent international reputation for the high quality of its research output. UEA is home to over 17,000 students, of which around 25 percent are postgraduate students.

UEA offers a wide range of both taught and research postgraduate degrees.
Taught postgraduate students are instructed by lecturers who have real-world industry experience and are highly regarded as experts in their subjects. All students have access to the university’s state-of-the-art facilities, which are internationally recognised for their quality.
Research degree students are helped to quickly settle in an environment renowned for the world-changing quality of its research. They are supervised by established supervisors who are proven experts in their fields. There is a sizeable research community at UEA, with around 1,400 research students currently studying at the university.
There are four faculties at the University of East Anglia, all of which offer a wide range of postgraduate programmes. Each faculty is made up of schools and research groups. The four faculties are:
Taught students are prepared for global careers in both academia and industry through an array of placements and training programmes, in conjunction with real-world experience and contact with professionals. They benefit from the innovative teaching of academics involved in ground-breaking research and the university supports an interdisciplinary approach to learning throughout its teaching.
Research students are supervised by academics who are leaders in their fields. UEA postgraduate researchers are assigned two academic supervisors for the duration of their studies. Entry requirements at the University of East Anglia vary on a course-by-course basis. Prospective students are encouraged to visit individual course pages to find out more about specific entry requirements for UEA's postgraduate courses.
Generally, prospective students are required to hold a bachelor’s degree for taught postgraduate programmes. For all master’s programmes, students are expected to have a minimum of a second-class degree. A third-class degree is sufficient for postgraduate diplomas.
For research masters’ level programmes, students are required to have a minimum 2:1 in a UK undergraduate degree, a master’s degree, or relevant equivalent.
UEA states that the minimum academic requirement for entry onto a doctoral course is a 2:1 in either a UK undergraduate degree, a master's degree, or a relevant equivalent.
Some programmes have specific entry requirements which differ from those listed above. Students are encouraged to check individual school requirements for the course they wish to apply to.
Alternative qualifications or professional experience may be accepted for entry onto postgraduate courses. Prospective students are encouraged to contact the admissions team or relevant course convener to discuss alternative entry requirements in further detail.

Scientific Research
UEA is proud of the quality of its scientific research. 94 percent of research undertaken in the university’s School of Environmental Sciences was judged to be either world-leading or internationally excellent (REF2021). The university was additionally ranked the best university in the UK for agriculture, food and veterinary sciences, and the fourth best in the UK for overall research quality in Earth systems and environmental sciences (REF2021).
Creative Writing
The early success of UEA was established through its strength in the arts and humanities. The university pioneered the first creative writing courses in the UK. This unique programme has since produced international best-selling authors including Emma Healey, Ian McEwan, Kazuo Ishiguro, and Anne Enright.

The University of East Anglia helps its students achieve future career success in both industry and academia. The university works in partnership with thousands of top organisations to ensure that students can draw from a wealth of real-world experience as they enter the graduate job market.
The university’s dedicated careers service, CareerCentral, offers a number of opportunities which help prepare them for successful careers once they leave UEA. CareerCentral helps students find student jobs and work experience, while offering a range of workshops, mentoring opportunities, and one-to-one sessions with expert career advisors. There is also a range of placements and internships available at established organisations. These are designed to help students develop the skillsets which employers value.
UEA’s student enterprise team also supports students to develop, launch, scale and grow their own business. Funding available to postgraduates from the scheme ranges from a GBP 500 grant to test an idea, to a sizeable GBP 50,000 investment to launch and grow a business.

UEA’s democratically elected students’ union includes a dedicated postgraduate SU which represents graduate interests and manages the Scholars Bar, located upstairs in Union House. Here, students will be able to grab a bite to eat, have a drink and enjoy the regular social events held for the postgraduate community.
There are over 200 clubs and societies running at UEA, ranging from hobbies and sporting interests to political societies and academic groups. If students cannot find a society relevant to their interests, the SU will help them set up a new one.
UEA is located two miles from the centre of Norwich. Steeped in history, the city is a vibrant place to live, and is home to a major commercial district and a thriving cultural centre.
Whether students are looking for independent bars and shops, or fascinating museums and galleries to explore, they will find it all in Norwich. The city is well connected by public transport, with London less than two hours away by train. The wider county of Norfolk also offers UEA students the chance to explore stunning coastlines, beautiful countryside, and the unique Broads national park.

There are fantastic accommodation options for postgraduate students at UEA. Prices vary depending on the type of room students chose to live in, but all accommodation is billed with utilities inclusive. Most rooms are self-catered and grouped around a shared kitchen.
For those who would prefer to rent privately off-campus, the UEA can offer support and guidance to ensure each individual student finds accommodation to suit their needs.
Academic facilities at UEA include a 24-hour multi-story library, which houses over 200 study spaces, state-of-the-art IT equipment, and over 800,000 books.
Campus amenities can be found just a minute’s walk from the library, with facilities including the shop, a bank, bakery, post office, student bar, book shop, a GP clinic, and a launderette. There is also the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, an art museum which displays work from a range of artists.
Sports facilities include UEA’s GBP 30 million Sportspark. It is the biggest indoor sports centre in Britain and houses an Olympic-sized swimming pool. UEA also provides its students with a range of playing fields for sports including lacrosse, American football, and rugby among others.

Student services are split into three teams at the University of East Anglia. There is a wellbeing team, a learning enhancement team, and a student life team. All services are located on-campus in the student support centre.
The wellbeing service is made up of professional and experienced advisers and trainers, offering advice, support, and guidance to students through one-to-one appointments. They can also arrange referrals to external services, and run a number of workshops and group sessions to help students manage their mental wellbeing and workload. Talking therapy is available, as is a specialised disability support service. Wellbeing advisors are additionally embedded within individual faculties at UEA in order to provide proactive support in subject specific areas.
The leaning enhancement team run a number of drop-in workshops and events, as well as offering online resources and individual tutorials to help postgraduate students make the most of their course. The student life team helps students in areas such as accommodation, finances, and student safety.
UEA also operates a digital mental health service called Togetherall. This award-winning service provides students support from trained clinicians 24 hour, seven days a week.

The University of East Anglia offers a variety of bursaries and scholarships for postgraduate students, many of which are subject specific. These are typically awarded on academic merit, usually for the duration of the period of study. Application deadlines vary, so students are advised to visit the UEA fees and funding information page for further details.
There are two UEA alumni scholarships available to students who have completed or are on track to complete an undergraduate degrees at the university. The 30 percent Final Year Continuation Scholarship is offered to students who continue onto postgraduate study at UEA within six months of graduating, providing they have achieved either a first class or starred first class undergraduate degree at UEA. These students are entitled to receive a 30 percent fee reduction scholarship, subject to terms and conditions.
There is also a UEA 10 percent fee reduction scholarship available to UEA alumni who choose to pursue a postgraduate degree at the university at a later date.
