Course info

Research in the School of Chemical and Process Engineering takes a multi-disciplinary and modern approach to Chemical Engineering, integrating world-leading analytical infrastructure and state-of-the-art physical science. The breadth of our capabilities allows us to take a true ‘atoms-to-products’ approach to process engineering and design, with impact across virtually all industrial sectors. To complete a postgraduate research programme, you’ll need to be dedicated and passionate about your area of study. But it’ll be well worth it. Being a doctoral student is challenging, yet incredibly rewarding. You are expected to carry out a programme of research in a particular area under the supervision of a primary supervisor and one or more co-supervisors.The Functional Materials Group covers all aspects of the fabrication, characterisation and applications of materials primarily of interest for their electronic, optical and thermal properties. The applications are wide-ranging, including healthcare, communications, automotive, aerospace and the process and energy generation industries. We specialize in sensor materials for both healthcare and non-destructive testing, in high energy capacitors, carbon-based materials for thermal management and active optical materials for communications and biocompatibility.
