David Hanson - Applicants

It's quite a difficult one with applicants to production degrees, and writing degrees, and so on. You look for some talent, and we do interview and we review. Screenwriters have to write scripts and so on, and so on. But you also look for a commitment and a readiness to learn, and also an understanding that the industry is very wide and very varied, and that people might be doing today or next year, what they're not going to be doing in three or four years time.

Transferability is very important in media production, in the whole media industries, and the ability to move from one thing to another and to extend your abilities and your talents beyond just writing or just acting, is really important. So, we profile our applicants carefully and make sure that they have the potential to develop, not simply that they've got that talent and that skill now, but that they've got the potential for growth. I think that's important to us.
