Jan Horwath - Employability

What we really want are people who are passionate about changing the world. That says it in a nutshell. Whether they want to do it from a perspective of changing their daily lives or helping people change their daily lives to improve their living experience, which is the case for those undertaking our social work courses, to those who have an inquiring mind on the social issues of the day and a keen to address those either from a sociological or a social policy perspective, or those who are keen to research and further our knowledge and understanding of some of those issues and the way in which they impact on people.

Students who complete courses in sociological studies are very well placed to find employment in a diverse range of settings and take up a diverse range of different careers. In terms of the social work programs, we are proud of the fact that many of our students not only remain as social work practitioners but also go on to become senior managers and directors of health and social care services, and indeed a number of academics at the forefront of social work research and teach at a different universities were trained here in Sheffield.
