Tim Luckhurst - Applicants

The criteria you need for an applicant to the MA in multimedia journalism are straightforward. They need an excellent first degree in a relevant subject. That means history, politics, law, English literature, solid arts and humanities subjects to a high standard, from a good university. But then, above all, they need an absolute desire, a really passionate ambition, to succeed in journalism.

How do you test that? Well, it's really very simple. Journalists read newspapers. They listen to the radio. They watch television. They take a close, constant interest in current affairs, and they discuss current affairs.

Nobody is going to make it in journalism unless they care about journalism. The simplest way to judge whether somebody cares about journalism is to check that they actually consume it. So, if you've got a good first degree, or you're expecting to get one, and you really want to be a great journalist, apply.

We'll invite you to interview. We'll discuss what you want to achieve, how you consume news now, and if you convince us that you really are interested in current affairs, and you really want to be a journalist, we'd love to have you. We want nothing more than to educate young people who want to succeed in journalism. That's what we're here for.
