What you'll learn

The taught component of the course includes subject-specific content in the area of cancer research. You have the flexibility to develop your own bespoke course by selecting additional, complementary modules. You will also receive itraining in general research principles, and other professional and key skills. Subject-based modules cover:

clinical and pathological aspects of cancer
molecular mechanisms that establish and promote cancer
current treatments and how research translates into novel treatments

Your project

Your research project comprises the major element of the course. This project will involve 24 weeks of research in an area of cancer research under the supervision of an expert academic researcher in the field.

The course allows you to experience an internationally competitive research area, predominantly in academia but also potentially in industry.

Modules

The aims of the module are to: allow students to undertake a general training in research methods and management within a first class research environment involving an appropriate project exploring one or more aspects of biosciences, health sciences and/or behavioural sciences; to allow intercalating students to experience medical research first hand; within these aims, the students will experience a range of cutting edge research within biosciences, health sciences and/or behavioural sciences either in the University, in another higher education institution or in Industry; to enable students to make informed choices about their further career development either medicine, science or business and to enable students to develop a range of professional and key skills, which will enable them to engage in teaching and/or research at an advanced level in higher education or in a senior professional capacity in other fields of employment.
