Postgraduate Reviews of Courses at Newcastle University

Choosing Newcastle University has been the most rewarding decision of my academic journey. I thoroughly researched both the city and the university before applying.

Student support at Newcastle University is excellent, and the IT service is responsive. When I experienced an issue with my student card, it was resolved promptly. Lecturers are approachable and attentive; my Degree Program Director has been especially supportive. Each student is assigned a personal tutor for guidance. When I requested a reference, my tutor responded the next day and provided it without delay.

Initially, I was concerned about fitting in and finding an inclusive environment as an international student. However, I quickly felt at home, as lecturers treat all students equally and foster an inclusive atmosphere.

My MSc in Global Conservation is progressing well. I have gained valuable knowledge through coursework, events, and conferences. Workshops also connect students with employers and companies. I found the Green Planet events particularly beneficial.

My accommodation has been great as well. I wanted something affordable and comfortable, and I found it at Jesmond Road West, a university housing complex for postgraduates. The accommodation service is quick and reliable. My room is spacious, and the best part is having wonderful flatmates. We support each other and live like a big family.

My story has helped guide my friends in their decisions for a place to study, and most have applied to and received offers from Newcastle University.

I think the Student Union should consider offering a printed student handbook to help new students adjust to the university. It would be a useful guide for newcomers to the environment.

As an International student here in United kingdom, I admit that got the best facilities, location and even timely support by the staff. But to be honest I think there's 1 aspect which Newcastle can improve a bit, which is supporting it's students for part -time jobs here in United kingdom, as I think most of the International students here in United kingdom come from different cultures, atmosphere, etc. So I think there can be bit more focus on support new students
Thank you, I love this university and it will always have a special place in my heart ❤️ read full review
Newcastle University is a fantastic place to study because of its vibrant campus, supportive staff, and strong sense of community. The city offers a welcoming environment for students, with plenty of cultural activities and opportunities to socialise. The university also provides excellent resources, from well-equipped libraries to modern laboratories, which enhance the academic experience. However, it could be improved by offering more study spaces during peak times and expanding mental health support services to ensure all students feel fully supported throughout their studies. read full review
Good facilities with a range of libraries. I like the give it a go programme and the range of societies and sports clubs.
Food/drink on campus could be cheaper but the spoons is good. read full review
My best experience has been how easy it is to build a community. Whether it’s joining societies, engaging in cultural events, or simply exploring the city with classmates, you instantly feel like you belong. The campus atmosphere is friendly and energising, especially around the Students’ Union.
The only difficult experience has been the accommodation demand. University halls get booked very fast, sometimes months before arrival, and many students, especially internationals, find themselves competing for limited spaces. This leads to last-minute scrambling, higher private-rent prices, and uncertainty. If the university expanded its accommodation capacity or improved transparency around allocation timelines, it would significantly reduce stress for incoming students. read full review
