Our course covers everything from advanced graphics programming to artificial intelligence. You’ll also use cutting-edge technology, such as PlayStation 5, virtual reality spaces and bespoke arcade systems.The Masters is ideal for graduates with a background in general software engineering, games programming, games development, computer science or similar technical disciplines. Alongside these areas, you’ll develop a deep understanding of the underpinning theory and philosophies of the subject.You will collaborate with others on multidisciplinary projects, mirroring the practices found in professional studios. We’ll also help you to develop an industry-ready portfolio through challenging practical assignments and coursework.You will be supported through one-to-one supervision for your dissertation, where you can focus on leading edge techniques and research. There will also be opportunities to network and benefit from our wide-ranging contacts within international games studios.You’ll be joining a multi-award-winning department – and one of the largest games programming teams in the UK. Our experts have extensive experience and their specialisms include AI, VR and graphics.

Computer Science Applications For Games (20 credits) - Core

In this module you will understand the contemporary computer science that forms a basis for games development, along with the theory that supports it. You’ll learn a variety of techniques that are currently extant and being built upon. To demonstrate your learning, you'll solve a series of applicable computer science problems.

Game Master Project (60 credits) - Core

Explore your own Project, within your chosen field and skills. Demonstrate the culmination of your development towards industry ready talent with support and guidance of a supervisor.

Graphics Programming (20 credits) - Core

Discover advanced graphics programming as you explore animation and lighting techniques, including skeletal animation and modern reflectance models. You'll gain hands-on experience with graphical APIs, debug tools, and real-time rendering while developing transferable skills for careers in gaming and research.

Serious Games Applications And Development Methodologies (20 credits) - Core

In this module you will understand what serious games are, along with the various frameworks and theory that supports them. You will learn a variety of gamification and serious games frameworks that are currently extant. You will compare them and learn how they can be used to develop a simple gamified application and/or strategy.

Project Management And Research Methods (20 credits) - Core

Explore core competencies for delivering high impact projects within Games Development. Managing a project, moving forwards with concepting and communicating requirements, having a clear awareness of dependencies at multiple levels of your team requires advanced leadership skills. Research method aims to develop the necessary skills and knowledge for formulating a research problem and deliver it as a substantive proposal or work.

Professional Practice And Entrepreneurship (20 credits) - Core

Students will learn the professional skills required to foster innovation and creativity in gaming industries. Topics include innovation and intellectual property; fundraising strategies and models; contracts, work-rates, and business ethics. The overall goal is for students to gain an understanding of the importance of developing and owning intellectual property and the characteristics and benefits of working in small production teams.

Advanced Prototyping (20 credits) - Core

In Advanced Prototyping you’ll build a series of prototype assets for your portfolio. You’ll work using contemporary industry style approaches and software to solve Games Design challenges using advanced research and problem solving.
