The reach and scale of these technologies can allow a single offender to unleash huge volumes of criminal activity, with vastly amplified harms. Join us on this Crime Science with Cybercrime MSc to learn how cybercriminal operations are planned and carried out, and how we can stop them. During this one-year multidisciplinary MSc, you will build knowledge and skills in several key areas, allowing you to work on and further our understanding of the fight against cybercrime. You’ll learn about the core skills and tools used to design and test secure systems, harnessing both physical and virtual factors to reduce vulnerability. You’ll hone advanced skills in statistical analysis, quantitative methods and research design. Drawing on a diverse range of disciplines, including social sciences, you’ll become skilled at manipulating large datasets to solve real-world crime problems. You’ll build a comprehensive understanding of how the online underground economy works, the drivers and methods of cybercriminal operations, and the rapidly evolving technical and legal challenges faced by law enforcement agencies and courts. You’ll also get the chance to build practical knowledge through research, using multidisciplinary approaches to design pinch points that interrupt key processes in criminal operations for maximum disruption. Our Crime Science with Cybercrime MSc is suitable for applicants from a range of different disciplines who want to pursue a lifelong career in research or work in the security and crime prevention industry. This programme is ideal for those with a passion for problem-solving seeking to make a positive impact on society through security, crime science and cybercrime prevention. This programme is also available on a modular (flexible) basis, with a duration of 5 calendar years.
