Postgraduate Reviews of Courses at UCL (University College London)

The location, diversity of student population and the ease with which international students can apply and be accepted read full review
The course was completely over-enrolled meaning we did not get attention from professors and we weren't able to enroll in all of the modules that are promised on the website. It is also very theory based and not practical - I didn't feel prepared at all when it came time for my dissertation. The advisors are not allowed to help us for very long, so you are mostly left alone for your dissertation. I would not recommend. read full review
Lack of preparation for pertinent skills in teaching; esp. behaviour management, employment law and employment rights, union advice.

Dogma and irrelevant theory is plugged rather than practical skills to ready students for a career in a tricky field of work.

Unpaid PGCE placements can often be horrendous and punitive for many enrolled on the course. Financial worries can pose an issue meaning SCITT is more viable. read full review
Best is the people and the quality of the education, worst has to deal with who runs UCL, administration has quite a few dirtbags. Facilitates aren't the greatest. I prefer more of a traditional campus feel and prefer KCL and LSE campus. Still considering coming back to UCL to apply for a LLM, alongside the other London unis, and maybe throw my shot at oxbridge. read full review

UCL is a great university with all facilities, and supportive environment read full review
The research is very high quality and it is great to be part of such a strong team.

Unfortunately, there is almost no support from the administration.
Colleagues coming from other universities both in the UK and abroad are continually surprised by quite how difficult it is to accomplish any administrative task. Personally, I have been waiting two months for an equipment request and one month for an expense claim. Other teaching assistants have waited over a year to get paid for their work. We are encouraged to work without contracts too.

Kind regards,
Alex
