Our PGCE Secondary Welsh course is designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to become a successful Welsh language teacher, enabling you to achieve Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). As part of our Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programme, this course will prepare you to teach Welsh as a first or second language in secondary schools. You will explore effective and creative ways to teach Welsh, using innovative techniques that engage students and promote a love for the language. The course covers essential language teaching skills, including planning lessons, assessing student progress, and using technology to support language learning. Through a combination of university-based study and school placements, you will gain practical experience in a variety of educational settings, including urban, rural, and Welsh-medium schools. These placements will allow you to apply your learning in real-world teaching environments, helping you to build confidence and develop your teaching style. In addition to developing your language teaching skills, the course also focuses on broader educational skills, such as classroom management and supporting students with diverse needs. Mentor support throughout the course will help guide your development as a teacher.
