Our Media and Development MA explores the multifaceted and rapidly evolving media and communications sector and its implications for developing economies – providing a route to a diverse range of careers. The University is the birthplace of the world-leading Communication and Media Research Initiative (CAMRI), and has been teaching media studies for the past 50 years. Drawing on this heritage, our Media and Development MA is led by experienced academics with strong links to media and development – particularly in the global South – and as a student on this course you will benefit from their expertise and networks. You will hear from guest speakers from development organisations who will give you a valuable insight into the policies, actions and impact of state and non-state institutions on media and development. This course offers a unique blend of theoretical and practical teaching. It enables you to develop both critical and hands-on skills. You will gain an excellent grounding in policy and learn about the evolving development and communications context – for example how digital platforms are shaping business strategies, and the development of mass communications. You’ll also develop both academic and practical skills by studying topics such as digital media production and access advanced media facilities within our Harrow campus.
